The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple

4th Joyful Mystery of the Rosary

Scriptural Rosary

When the eighth day came and the child was to be circumcised, they gave him the name Jesus, the name the angel had given him before his conception. And when the day came for them to be purified as laid down by the Law of Moses, they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord - observing what stands written in the Law of the Lord: every first-born male must be consecrated to the Lord - and also to offer in sacrifice, in accordance with what is said in the Law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons. Now in Jerusalem there was a man named Simeon. He was an upright and devout man; he looked forward to Israel's comforting and the Holy Spirit rested on him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death until he had set eyes on the Christ of the Lord. Prompted by the Holy Spirit he came to the Temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the Law required, he took him into his arms and blessed God; and he said: "Now, Master, you can let your servant go in peace, just as you promised; because my eyes have seen the salvation which you have prepared for all the nations to see, a light to enlighten the pagans and the glory of your people Israel." (Luke 2, 21-39)

Meditation: Like Mary, who took Jesus in her arms to present Him to God, it is now the moment for us to entrust our lives, our families and our friends to Jesus through Mary. We consecrate ourselves to Jesus through Mary, so that she can guide and care for us as her little children. Jesus gave us Mary as our Mother. Thank you Jesus for giving us so loving a Mother. She is all beautiful, all holy, all pure, the pearl of creation. She is the cause of our joy.

Eternal Father, your humble servant Mary presented Jesus to you in the Temple.
Through Jesus and Mary, may the Church be animated by a pure faith, strong hope and ardent love.

Our Father ... Hail Mary (x10) ... Glory be ... O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell and lead all souls to heaven especially those who have most need of thy mercy.

The Presentation - Let us pray now for Our Lady's intentions, for all priests and religious, and all single people. We pray that they may be abundantly blessed and protected, and we especially pray for all those known to us. And, as always now, we present all our special intentions, confident that if they accord with Our Father's will, they will be granted.

And when the days of her purification were fulfilled according to the Law of Moses, they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.

"We too are presented to God. Please God each one of us is alive in the life of Christ, what we Catholics call 'in a state of grace', and presented in some way also through the hands of his mother. It was through her, after all, through her yes, that God became man. So we are endlessly in the situation of being held before God in his holy place by Mary and we must pray that the Christ life in us should grow and develop."

3 2us by Father Kevin Taggart OSB

"As Christians we are asked to take the light of the world around with us so that we can spread God's Word and the Gospel, because each of us is a temple of the Holy Spirit and therefore the light of the world."
