Virtues

Pope John Paul I , whose apostolic motto was Humilitas, gave his first Wednesday audience on

humility.

This was followed by three catecheses on the theological virtues:

faith
hope
and charity.

Pope John Paul I died after 33 days of pontificate and when Karol Woytyla was elected after him, he chose to continue this theme, having discovered JPI had written notes on all 'seven lamps of Christian life'. Hence St John Paul II gave his first four catecheses on the cardinal virtues:

prudence
justice
fortitude / courage
and temperance.
