Born on 28 November 1594 in Binondo, Manila, to a Chinese father & Filipino mother
Member of the Cofradia del Santísimo Rosario
Martyred on 29 September 1637 in Nagasaki, Japan by the Tokugawa Shogunate
Beatified in Manila on 18 February 1981 by Pope John Paul II (first ever beatification ceremony held outside the Vatican)
Canonized among the 16 Martyrs of Japan on 18 October 1987 at St Peter's by St JPII
Feast day - 28 September
Patron saint of the Philippines


According to Latin missionary accounts sent back to Manila, Lorenzo declared these words upon his death: "Ego Catholicus sum et animo prompto paratoque pro Deo mortem obibo. Si mille vitas haberem, cunctas ei offerrem - I am a Catholic and wholeheartedly do accept death for God; Had I a thousand lives, all these to Him shall I offer."
