SINGAPORE - 新加坡共和国

Pope Saint John Paul II was a pilgrim to Singapore in 1986.

JPII: "I wish at this time to entrust the whole Church in Singapore to Mary. It was she who through the power of the Holy Spirit first gave Christ to the world. By her love and her prayers may she now give him also to you. Amen."

Alve

"Mary for me is a mother. She picks all the sinners like from the rubbish bin and then she purifies us, cleanses us and prepares us to go to Jesus. I feel like I’m one of them."

Alve gives her something about Mary in English and Cantonese.

Audrey

"When I thought I couldn’t have children I prayed to Mother Mary and she gave me two beautiful daughters so that I could name one of them after her."

Catherine

"Mother Mary is my mother on earth and in heaven, a mother for my children as well. When I have problems, I tell my mother. Mother knows best!"

Christian

"I thank you Mother Mary for being with us."

Sister Desiree of Jesus ocd

"Mary to me is a very intimate friend and everything to me, because I feel that I am very close to her whenever I have any difficulties and I always ask her for help, and she seems always to be there for me."

Sister Desiree of Jesus is in the Carmel at Notting Hill in London.

Frances

"Mary, my mother, she helps me a lot."

Hilary

"Mother Mary is a very special person in my life, particularly a mother. To me she is a special guide, she's a perfect example of what all Christians should be, a first disciple, and I pray that all of us as Catholics, as Christians, will be able to say yes to God's call when He does call, just like Our Lady."

Sister Jacinta FSDM

"Now I couldn't love Jesus if I didn't look at Mary as well. Of all her titles .. one title sticks out: Mother of God, my Mother. Someone that I know will always be there interceding for me, with me, someone who will teach me how to love Jesus as deeply as I want to love him, in every way I can possibly do."

Jessica

"I think the thing about Our Lady that I really hold quite important to me is her sacrifice and how she willingly gave up her life to do God's will; and if only I could do the same. And so I feel that's something quite close to my heart."

Joshua

"What I love most about Our Lady is that I'm really close to my mum and Our Lady is also my mum. Being away from family, I turn to Our Lady the most as she's the closest connection with home. I also remember my grandmother had a strong devotion to Our Lady, so whenever I have any trouble I always turn to Our Lady and I pray and she has been my mother here."

Joshua's Real Christmas

"Christmas is a time of giving and gratitude to me. Sometimes it's easy to get caught up in the materialism of it, buying enough, trying to chase after the deals. But most important of all, Christmas is about hope. And sometimes when I think of how our Saviour was born into the world, I would like him to be born into our hearts and that he would give us hope, hope that there's a new world is awaiting with him."

Joshua was a pilgrim to San Giovanni Rotondo, home of St Padre Pio

"I think what I remember most about the pilgrimage to San Giovanni Rotondo was seeing St Pio's cell and visiting the place where his body lay. It gave me a reminder of how even the saints, who have our devotions and we ask them to pray for us and intercede for us and we know that they are in heaven, it was a reminder that they were also human and facing the same challenges just as us, subject to the same weaknesses and temptations and challenges. So it gave me hope that, even though in the day to day struggles we can fall, sometimes it's difficult, I know that ultimately, by God's grace, that we can make it, that we can be saved, because the saints were in the same place as we are in."

Lily

"If you’ve got a belief in Our Lady, just say 3 Hail Marys every day when you come to church or whatever, tell her your problems and ask her to help. It will take time before you get that help, but if you've got belief, it will really happen."

Margaret

"I am a real, real lover of Our Lady because without her I don't think I would have been brought to the feet of her Son, and that means so much to me."

May

"For me, Mother Mary is a source of hope, a guiding light. I can relate to her. I speak to her every day - when I'm happy, when I'm sad, when I have troubles. I know she can hear me and she is always there to help me and to love me. I believe she is a huge part of my life and I am very grateful for her being there for me always."

Michael

"Our Lady is Mother of Perpetual Help and the Mother of Christ."

Michael

"We named our daughter Mary in honour of Mother Mary."

Morgan Maria

"I didn't go to church for many years. I only recently returned, very gradually. I think it all started when Pope John Paul II died and somehow I got very involved and I needed to go to church to pray ... Now I say the rosary, I am very devoted to it. It has helped me a great deal. .. There is much more to go yet I know but I am asking Mother Mary to be there always with me to help me. Yes, I am very devoted - I love her, as I love Jesus."

Rema

"I think what Mary means to me is obviously a mother figure and someone who brought Jesus into this world, but not only that but brought life."

Sandra

"Mary is like a mother and an example for me and everything that I can only hope to be and strive for in life."

Sheryl

"What I love about Our Lady is that she is like a mother to me and, just like how my mother is, she shows care and love to her children."

Sister Vera

"Mary has been a great mother to me and she has helped me very much in my relationship with Jesus, in trying to deepen my love for him as she loved him. And also in preparing for my final vows, she has helped me greatly in my 'yes' as she made her 'yes' to Jesus also, and to the Lord."

Sister Vera is based in San Diego with the Congregation of the Sisters of Nazareth.

Pope Saint John Paul II took his motto Totus Tuus from this quote:

'Totus tuus ego sum et omnia mea tua sunt.
Accipio te in mea omnia. Praebe mihi cor tuum, Maria.'

'I am totally yours and all that I have is yours.
I accept you for my all. O Mary, give me your heart.'
- St Louis de Montfort
